The 6.2 magnitude earthquake that hit central Italy at 3:36 a.m. on Aug. 24 has killed at least 247, left more than 2,500 without a home and razed entire towns. “Half of the town is gone,” said the mayor of Amatrice, Sergio Pirozzi. Other towns near the earthquake’s epicenter, including Accumoli and Arquata del Tronto, have seen most of their buildings turned into rubble.
