Local Jewelry Artist Donates 1,000 Pieces To Domestic Violence Campaign

Local jewelry artist, Liza Lentini, donated 1,000 new pieces of jewelry to raise awareness for domestic violence. she is donating her work in order to help those affected by domestic violence. She has created a campaign called “A Thousand for a Thousand.” She hopes other artists will join her campaign for this worthy cause. She hopes to complete her donation by October, National Domestic Awareness Month. Her donation is going to Rosie’s Place in Boston and Safe Haven of Pike County in Mildford, PA. Dante Aligheri Society to Host Open House

The Dante Aligheri Society will be hosting an open house for their Fall Trimester Language Courses. The open house will be on September 3, 2015 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at their Cambridge location. East Boston Savings Bank Finances Boston Marine Transport Projects

Joe DiCunzolo, owner of Boston Marine Transport Inc., displayed the company’s newly purchased oil barge, NY 30. He also displayed a newly renovated tug boat, named the Pinuccia. They were exhibited in Boston Harbor last week. The NY 30 took a little over a year to build, and the tug boat was recently renovated. East Boston Savings Bank provided over $5 million to finance these projects. CEO and Chairman of EBSB, Richard Gavengnano, said: “EBSB continues to make advances in our efforts to deliver substantial loans and create a more efficient and succinct lending process for customers.”

OSIA Holds Grand Lodge Of Massachusetts’ 101st State Convention

The Order Sons of Italy in America hosted The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts’ 101st State Convention from June 11 to June 14. This year, the annual convention took place at the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Many attended the event, including the organization’s newly elected officers. Among the officials was new State President Antonio Sestito. Two outstanding, committed members were awarded at the convention. Delia Bartucca and Mario Lucciola were awarded the Golden Lions Award, which is the highest honor a member can receive. Italian Teens Compete In Local Sailing Competition


From July 14-18, two Italian teen sailors from Scuola Vela Mascalzone Latino will compete against three well-known Boston-area sailing centers. The teens were honored to accept this invitation and will receive credit from the school for competing. The event starts at the MIT Sailing Center, and ends with a ceremony at MIT Pavilion. At the ceremony, Consul Nicola De Santis will present an award to the teens. This event is hosted by Professionisti Italiani a Boston and the Italian Consulate.

Italian Students From Medford Attend BLO’s “Don Giovanni”

On April 29, 2015, Medford High School Italian classes attended the Boston Lyric Opera‘s final dress performance of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Shubert Theatre in Boston. The group was able to attend the show because forty free tickets were donated to them by the educational department at the Boston Lyric Opera. The money to pay for the bus to take to-and-from the theatre was awarded to the group by a scholarship fund of former Italian teacher from the school, Michelina Petrangelo. Maurizio Fava, director of the Clinical Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Massimo Loda, director of the Center for Molecular Oncologic Pathology at the Dana Faber Cancer Institute, and Pier Paolo Pandolfi, director of the Cancer Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), have recently been knighted by their native country of Italy. Festa della Repubblica celebrated at Filippo Ristorante


Boston’s Italian American community came together on May 31 to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Italy as a Republic. Rainy conditions shifted the annual celebrations from Christopher Columbus Park to Filippo Ristorante. Organized by the local COMITES chapter and the Federazione Associazioni Italiane e Italo-Americane New England, the Festa kicked off with the Centro Attività Scolastiche Italiane (Casit) awarding ten individual scholarships to as many students from the Boston area. BU’s Alexa Cambi among six Italian American women selected for Italian national lacrosse team


Six Italian American women were recently called to take part in the Italian National Team in Women’s Lacrosse and will be competing in the European Championships this August – Alexa Cambi (Boston University), Kerrin Maurer (Duke University), Cate Soccodato (Our Lady of Mercy Academy High School/Marquette University Commit), Daniela Kelly (University of Virginia), Anna Maria Carabini (St. Mary’s College), and Brooke Kiley (University of Pennsylvania).
