An Italian teapot dating back to the early 18th century was sold in Boston for $80,000, according to the Antiques Trade Gazette. The Vezzi porcelain teapot with a bronze mounted cover was sold on January 17 to an unknown bidder at Skinner’s in Boston, after it had been first estimated at $20,000-$30,000. The 1725 Venetian vase has an octagonal shape body with molded acanthus leaf borders and paneled sides of polychrome enamel decorated with flowers, green enamel trim lines, bronze mount to hinged cover and to face mask spout. Italy’s main sports newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport, is reporting that Thomas R. DiBenedetto, president of investment management firm Boston International Group, alongside a partner at New England Sports Ventures, is the lead investor in the discussions currently taking place in New York to buy A.S.
