Celebrating Carnevale in East Boston

Once again, the traditional Carnevale celebrations organized by Italia Unita were a triumph of colors and senses.

After a brief presentation by the organization’s co-founder and main organizer of the event, Lisa Cappuccio, a brief welcome was given out by Italy’s Consul General for New England, Giuseppe Pastorelli.

Held at the Spinelli’s Function Facility in East Boston, the evening consisted of music by DJ Mike Lavecchia, presentations on “Carnevale” held in various regions of Italy, including Sciacca, Sicily — where Italia Unita member Pascal Gangi hails from.

Pascal and his group introduced a replica of traditional floats from his hometown made of paper mache. The Beverley Richard dancers performed a few traditional Carnevale songs and guests wore masks and costumes.
