Six months after hosting its first successful fundraising event “italianissimo!,” the Public Charity “Friends of the Italian Cultural Center of Boston/FICCB” was launched in December 2012 with the aim of creating a Center of Italian Culture in Boston and to ensure its management and operation once it opens.
The launch was paired with the unveiling of the charity’s new website.
“FICCB’s immediate mission is to establish a sustainable Italian Cultural Center of Boston (ICCB),” reads the charity’s mission statement.
“To achieve this it will continue to work very closely with the Consulate General of Italy in Boston, with the Italian and Italian-American community, with Italian and Italian-American associations, with Universities, Colleges and other Boston-based non-profit cultural organizations, with local authorities, as well as with Italian museums, foundations, and cultural centers.”
The non-profit organization is registered in The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and has the objective of promoting Italian language and culture as well as preserving Italian heritage in Boston.
VISION BEHIND THE CENTER (as stated on center’s website)
The Italian Cultural Center of Boston will represent our love of Italy; our passion for Italian art, culture, language, tradition and lifestyle; our desire to strengthen the connection between Boston and Italy, also for the benefit of future generations; the incentive to preserve the deeply-rooted Italian heritage of Boston and its history of Italian immigration; the desire to create more opportunities to promote Italy and its excellence, both in the creative and in the economic fields; the need to raise awareness about Italy as a reality today and to strengthen its relationship with Americans; the ambition to become a landmark for the entire Italian and Italian-American community.
We envision the Center to serve as a public meeting place, similar to an Italian “piazza” open to all those who love Italy; a place that honors tradition and fosters innovation; a place one can visit to listen to a concert and network with Italian entrepreneurs and companies; a place where one can attend a scientific seminar or discover the secrets of Italian cuisine; a place where one can watch a movie and where children are invited to learn more about Italy; a place where one can enjoy style, fashion and design and learn Italian language; a place where one can experience art and appreciate the beauty of the Italian territory; a place where one can read an Italian classic or simply meet new and old friends; a place for dialogue and where to exchange ideas amongst the diverse communities present in Boston.
The Italian Cultural Center of Boston is a place where people can feel closer to Italy.
