On Wednesday,, Aug. 19, the Boston College women’s basketball team visited Martina Mosetti’s hometown of Trieste, which is in Northern Italy along the Adriatic Sea. It was a happy family reunion as her sister Mariana and brother Luca as well as Marti’s grandfather and grandmother, along with her parents — Andreas and Silvia greeted the travel party at the bus stop.
After a warm greeting from the family the extended BC family walked the streets of Trieste with her dad Andreas sharing his knowledge of the beautiful city along the Adriatic Sea. After an hour tour, the group separated to grab a cafe and shop. Some girls came back with bags from clothing stores, others had chocolate, stopped for coffee and many purchased assortment of Trieste souvenirs.
Everyone reconvened at 2 p.m. to have lunch together with traditional food in Trieste at a small cafe.
The family passed out plates of food to the group with the first course of small sandwiches with prosciutto, ham and salami on focaccia followed by a pesto pasta salad with tomatoes and mini mozzarella. The final course was ham with bread and a mustard sauce. After a rest the team gathered around to sing Happy Birthday to Emilee Daley. The sophomore will probably always remember her 21st birthday in Trieste. The cake was an Italian marble along with another cake of nutmeg and nuts to celebrate.
As the team prepared to leave the small cafe the rain came. Everyone huddled together under umbrellas and walked through the rain soaked streets to the bus.
The trip was wonderful as the team was able to meet Marti’s family as well as her friends and experience the lifestyle of one of their teammates.
After a three hour bus ride, the group stopped for a pregame meal in Vicenza because the team now had to prepare for their game.
