The North End Columbus Day Celebration Committee is hosting an evening of celebration and commemoration on Friday, October 9 at the Living Room onAtlantic Avenue.
The reception will feature music, prizes, refreshments and cocktails. Advance tickets are $45.00 per person (50.00 at the door) and may be purchased by contacting the Therese at 617-504-3284, or mail in attached form.
This year’s honored guests will be The Friends of Christopher ColumbusPark. The Friends are the 2015 recipient of the Committee’s Michael A. Nazzaro Community Service Award.
Mike Nazzaro was born and raised in the North End, was a small business owner and served as our State Representative. During his tenure, Mike protected the neighborhood from the era’s urban development push and helped make the neighborhood the vibrant community it is. The Committee is recognizing The Friends for that same commitment and dedication to our community and our great city.
The Friends have been excellent caretakers of our beloved Christopher Columbus Park. Their partnership with the city and their stewardship has made Columbus Park a waterfront oasis for our neighborhood and another jewel in the City’s park system. We are happy to honor The Friends with Mike’s Award to say thank you for their years of commitment!
The Bi-Annual Columbus Day Parade will take place on Sunday October 11,beginning at City Hall Plaza at 1:00PM. The parade will make its way through downtown Boston and the waterfront, the Christopher Columbus Park and into theNorth End. The parade will include Boston Police and Fire honor guard, military personnel and vehicles, marching bands, drum& bugle corps, antique cars, North End feast floats, neighborhood groups, flag throwers from Sulmona Italy, floats and thousands of other participants. Best viewing is on Hanover and Endicott Streets in the North End.
The parade is a great opportunity to cheer on the members of our armed forces and the brave men and women who serve and protect us here at home, It is a wonderful day of neighborhood celebration, heritage and fun for the whole family.
