On May 19, the Kiwanis Club of East Boston honored three long-time club members for their years of dedication and service to the community of East Boston and the children of the world. The honorees — Judge Joseph V. Ferrino Sr. (ret.) of Winthrop, Dennis Lombardo of Randolph and John Nucci of East Boston — were presented with Legion of Honors awards by the East Boston Kiwanis, a club founded in 1947 with the mission “to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.”
Retired Judge Joseph Ferrino was recognized for his 50 years of service in the community. The former East Boston District Court judge is also well known in the community for his dedication to furthering the Italian-American cause, and was among the founders of October as Italian-American Heritage Month in Massachusetts.
Dennis Lombardo was recognized for his 40 years of service with Kiwanis. Lombardo is currently Chief Financial Officer of Lombardo’s conference and wedding venue in Randolph, an establishment started by his father Sal and uncle Paul in 1963.
John Nucci was awarded for 30 years of service in the community. Before being named vice president of Community Relations and Government Affairs at Suffolk University in 2005, Nucci served as at-large member of the Boston City Council for four years and as Clerk of the Suffolk County Criminal Superior Court for 11 years.
