A life in comedy was probably in the stars from his April fool’s birthdate for Enrico Rennella.

Born in Paris 30 years ago, Mr. Rennella, who moved to Naples at the age of one, performs in his native Italian.

He said he tried to break into the comedy club scene in Naples as a teenager, but said it was “hard to organize a show with all th e mafia controlling the clubs. If you want to go here, you can’t go here, if you want to go there, you can’t go there.”

He indicated Naples is, “the city of the joke”, and continued to keep his sense of humor after moving back to Paris in his 20s and continuing his comedy career with a show that is largely improvisational and involves storytelling.

He toured throughout Europe performing for the Italian diaspora in places such as Belgium, France and Switzerland, making them laugh with spoofs about TV shows and the like.

But it was a chance vacation to Vaughan, Canada a few years ago that sparked his interest in performing in this area.

“I did not know Vaughan, but I discovered they’re a lot more Italian here than the Italians I know in Paris. I did my first show in Vaughan in September 2011,” he said. He added the 90-minute routine is a mix of jokes, stories, and music.

“A friend said to me, ‘When you speak English, you are already funny’,” he said. He has also done shows in Montreal and Windsor where he said he has been warmly received. But he said he really likes to do shows in Vaughan because it “feels like home.” Making his Boston Debut on Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, MA, Rennella is excited to bring his show to the States!
