Canadian-born singer Chelsea Woodard is one of the many talented students that every summer go through the Walnut Hill Summer Opera program, during which students ages 13 to 17 spend two weeks on the Walnut Hill campus rehearsing, as well as attending coachings and master classes.
The experience is topped with eight days in Italy experiencing opera culture. This upcoming summer’s program (June 26 – July 11) students will visit La Scala, the Verona Opera Festival and perform at Casa Verdi in Milan. They will also have the chance to visit the birthplaces and museums of Verdi and Donizetti. The culmination of the program is a final performance given by the Summer Opera Program participants back on the Walnut Hill campus in Natick, Massachusetts.
Woodard was part of the program in 2010, and recently uploaded two videos of her performances on her YouTube channel.
“This is a song that I learned [last] summer at Walnut Hill Summer Opera program,” she writes under one of her videos. “It took place in Boston and we got to spend one week in Italy, It was a fantastic summer and I hope that you enjoy what I have learned!”
The application deadline for the 2011 program is May 1. For more details visit the program’s official website.
