C.A.S.IT. celebrates 20 years at fundraiser event

“Come, learn and play” was the main theme of C.A.S.IT.’s second annual fundraiser Casino Night, held at Spinelli’s in Lynnfield. Raising funds to support Italian language and culture programs in public and private schools throughout New England, the non-profit organization also celebrated its 20th anniversary, with honored guests such as the Consul General of Italy for New England, Nicola De Santis, and State Sen. Sal DiDomenico joining C.A.S.IT. founder Maria Gioconda Motta and Vice President Alberto Mogavero for the occasion. Campaign to Support AP Language in New England Launched

The Italian Consulate in Boston and COMITES are seeking support in a joint effort to expand the offering of AP-level courses in Italian language and culture in high schools throughout New England. Click here to contribute to the campaign AP (or Advanced Placement) are courses that reward students and schools that offer more advanced programs in Italian and allow students to earn college credits while in high school. Festa della Repubblica celebrated at Filippo Ristorante

Boston’s Italian American community came together on May 31 to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Italy as a Republic. Rainy conditions shifted the annual celebrations from Christopher Columbus Park to Filippo Ristorante. Organized by the local COMITES chapter and the Federazione Associazioni Italiane e Italo-Americane New England, the Festa kicked off with the Centro Attività Scolastiche Italiane (Casit) awarding ten individual scholarships to as many students from the Boston area. C.A.S.IT. Launches First Innovative Italian Summer Camp

The Centro Attività Scolastiche Italiane (C.A.S.IT.) launched its first Innovative Italian Summer Camp program on Monday, July 8. “I still can’t believe we managed to make this happen,” said Camp Director Maria Gioconda Motta, founder of C.A.S.IT. and one of several volunteers working at the camp. The program includes both indoor and outdoor games and activities, with 19 children participating the first week of camp and another 12 coming in the second week. The camp takes place at the North End’s Eliot School, thanks to the principal Traci Griffith, who opened the school doors for the camp.

C.A.S.IT., the state’s leading organization in promoting the Italian language in Massachusetts schools, has a new and revamped website, where students, parents and teachers can find all the information needed to learn, practice and promote the language of Dante. The organization’s mission is to assist communities that wish to introduce, preserve, rejuvenate or broaden the study of the Italian language in their schools. C.A.S.IT.
