Sons of Italy hosts 2015 Law and Education Awards

The Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, part of the national Order Sons of Italy in America, is honoring several leaders in the Italian-American community, as well as giving out $30,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors at a combined event, the Massachusetts Education and Law Awards, on Sunday, May 3, 2015. This is a continuation of a 31-year tradition of the Grand Lodge’s commitment to social justice, previously known as the Law and Justice Awards, which has honored leaders like Former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito. Overall, density of Italian speakers is high in the Northeast region, as our interactive map shows. The Bay State ranks fifth in the country at 0.64 percent. Leading the charge is Connecticut: 1.06 percent of its whole population speaks Italian at home. New York outnumbers all States having almost 190,000 of Italian speakers.
